The original "Souled Out" concept came about in 2000 when "Rockin;"
Randall Fryou and Dave Mouton met in February of 2000. "Rockin'"
Randall, a local keyboardist/vocalist from Morgan City, LA was looking
for a saxophonist to do some small gigs in the Morgan City area.
Dave
and
Randall met and did a series of small bar and private parties in
the Morgan City area. Realizing that a two-piece was going to get very
much attention, the duo decided that a band complete with a horn
section would be a great vehicle to get some attention.
Dave and
Randall put together what was then aptly named Souled Out. That
band consisted of
Joe B. King (trombone), Scott Pierce (trumpet),
Dave Mouton (saxophone) in the horn section. The rhythm section
never really solidified but Seymour "Ed" Gaudet (guitar/sound),
"Rockin'" Randall Fryou (keyboards/vocals), Colin McGibboney (male
lead), Cherie Coco (female lead) and
Jared Boudreaux (drums)
rounded out the group. After a few rehersals, it was evident that the
chemistry really wasn't there. However, there was some chemistry
between the horn section and
Randall. Eventually, the "Souled Out"
concept was scrapped and
Dave and Randall continued with the
two-piece.

It was only a matter of time until the idea of adding the horn section to
the two-piece became a reality.
Scott Pierce was added, making the
band a three-piece.
Joe B. King was added a couple of months later.
The group going under the name "
Rockin'" Randall and The Souled
Out Horns"
was getting some attention locally as an entertaining act
specializing in swamp pop and rhythm and blues. It didn't take long for
the idea of "another big band" to re-surface.

With the horn section and vocalist already in place, the four-piece set
out to revive the idea of
"Souled Out".  Jerome Gros (bass), Byron
Toups (drums), Dave Clayton (guitar) were added to the group. The
group had one rehearsal and did it's first performance in Berwick, LA.
Guitarist
Dave Clayton left the group and was replaced by Jack Martin.
Shortly thereafter, the then 17-year old
Beau St. Pierre (keyboards,
trumpet) joined the band. With it's core members in place Souled Out
begin to play steadily in and around the Morgan City area. Under the
name,
"Rockin' Randall and Souled Out' the band began to develop a
following. During this time, Souled Out was still mainly a swamp pop
band doing a little rhythm and blues.

In 2002, the band officially changed the name to just "
Souled Out" and
eventually parted ways with "
Rockin' Randall". The band was wanting
to branch out into more funk, more dance music so that Souled Out
could appeal to a broader audience. With the departure of
Randall,
Souled Out was without a lead vocalist. Until trombonist
Joe B. King
convinced
Mouton that he was the man for the job.

With
Joe B. as lead vocalist, Souled Out was now more than equipped
to tackle the genres of music that they wanted to do. Trombonist
Jason Lyons joined the horn section and the band played their first
major festival,
The Shrimp & Petroleum Festival in Morgan City, LA.
Souled Out began to be a sought after act in the Thibodaux/Houma
area as well being featured in
The Gumbo,  a local entertainment
magazine in Houma, LA.

In 2003, original Souled Out drummer
Byron Toups left the band and
was replaced by
Sam Lecompte. Souled Out continued to play several
nightclubs, weddings and corporate event in the tri-parish area (St.
Mary, Lafourche, and Terrebonne).

In 2005, original Souled Out guitarist
Jack Martin and original
trumpeter
Scott Pierce left the band. Berkley alum guitarist Glenn
"Lemon" Zeringue was brought in and Beau St. Pierre moved to
trumpet.
Tillis Verdin (keyboards) joined the band to fill the keyboard
vacancy. Eventually,
Jules Caldarera (tenor/baritone saxophone) was
added to the group adding another horn to the horn section.

The band continued to be a dominant force in the local music scene
branching out to different areas and continuing to grow their fan base.
Trumpeter
Cory Distefano was added to the group in May of 2005.
Jared Boudreaux (percussion) was added in August 2005 bringing
Souled Out to eleven performing members!

Cory Distefano and trombonist Jason Lyons left Souled Out in 2006.
Longtime Souled Out friend and trombonist,
Matt "Spanky" LaRose
joined the group.

In the summer of 2006, Souled Out went yet through another change.
Saxophonist
Jules Caldarera and longtime member trumpeter Beau
St. Pierre left the band. Souled Out keyboardist Tillis Verdin left the
group to go on tour with
Marc Broussard. There was certainly work to
be done to fill such great musicians. Souled Out went on a search for
some undiscovered talented horn players. Keyboardist
Mark Duet
joined the group in June 2006 along with
Zach Broussard and Mike
Trahan on trumpet returning Souled Out to five horns with saxophonist
Ryan Lottinger. In February of this year, trumpeter David Jumper
joined the band replacing Mike Trahan in the lineup.

Souled Out continues to be one of the most popular bands in south
Louisiana. The band keeps a steady supply of nightclubs, weddings
and private parties on deck...and shows no signs of slowing down.
Considered by many to be one of the most talented and entertaining
bands in south Louisiana, Souled Out continues to branch out and
spread it's knack for turning the "ordinary" into "the extraordinary".
